The family patriarch, Kenneth A. Davis (1935-2007) began his printing career in 1948. Ken started printing at the age of 9 when he worked for his sister and brother-in-law at the Beckham County Democrat in Erick, Oklahoma. He worked there through high school and then in printing firms in Texas that included The Shamrock Texan for several years before forming a partnership with two of his brothers in 1960. The three brothers operated Davis Printing Company in Elk City from 1960 until 1968.
Ken sold his interest in the firm in 1965 and moved with his wife, Beth, and two sons, Kevin and Karsen, to Cyril, Oklahoma. The family owned and operated The Cyril Weekly News and also did commercial printing from 1965 until 1980. Ken began training his two sons in the trade at an early age. Both were running presses long before they reached their teenage years. Ken and Beth moved back to Elk City in early 1980 under the “mistaken” idea they would semi-retire.
Semi-retirement was not in the cards as the boom of the late 70’s/early 80’s made it quite evident that Elk City was in dire need of an additional commercial printing company to meet the demand of the growing population and economy. Ken and Kevin founded and opened Davis Printing Company at 217 S. Jefferson, Elk City, Oklahoma on November 10, 1980. The business grew quickly and Karsen joined the firm in 1981. A third generation of the family, Shawn Davis, is an active partner in the legacy that began in 1948.
The printing industry has not been exempt from phenomenal changes with the advent of digital technologies. Digital growth necessitated the expansion of facilities and equipment to keep up with the ever-changing needs of the public. The humble beginnings of Davis Printing Company in 1980 are barely recognizable today in the massive facility that houses the new and improved equipment, showroom and production areas.
The extended-family staff of 12 professionals at Davis Printing Company is extremely knowledgeable in all phases of the business….from idea conception to graphic design to finished products. Literally thousands of products are offered at the modern facility and the newly remodeled showroom houses a constantly changing array of products and ideas that stimulate any imagination.
Elk City and western Oklahoma is “home” to every staff member.
